Moving to Belize

Moving to Belize is simple, as US and Canadian residents can come to Belize for up to a month without a visitor’s visa. For the first year,  a visitor’s permit must be updated each month until visitors are allowed the option to become a resident! Alternatively, a 60-day or 90-day permit can be granted with proof of long-term living arrangements. After the first year, many expats pursue permanent residence in Belize. With permanent residence, expats are free to work in Belize without the requirement of a work permit

Belize’s Retired Person’s Incentive Program (QRP) offers the ability for retirees over age 45 and their families, to come and go as they please with a home base in Belize. With only a one-month minimum requirement to be present in Belize each year, this program offers the perks of importing personal items (including boats and cars) completely tax-free. In addition, with the QRP no taxes will be collected on foreign earned income. Retirees renew their QRP status on a yearly basis, and enjoy the host of opportunities and benefits brought by being a Belizean resident.
